World Water Day 2015 This Sunday March 22

You may not have known this, but there is a World Water Day that has taken place for the past 22 years. This Sunday, March 22, the tradition of drawing our attention to water awareness, sustainability and water technologies continues.

In 1993, the United Nations declared March 22 World Water Day. Every year, the day is celebrated with a focus on a new theme. This year’s theme is “Water and Sustainable Development.” From the website, this theme is about how water links to all areas of the future that we want to create.

On this day, it’s important to remember that many people go without water and creating a sustainable future means getting water to those areas that are dry. We are just beginning to see some possibly catastrophic water issues in the United States, and it’s important to be aware of not only our bounty and others lack, but also to be part of creating a sustainable path to preserve our world’s greatest natural resource.
