Vero Water Presents: What is Food Revolution Day
Food Revolution Day, Chef Jamie Oliver’s campaign to educate children about food is Friday, May 15 and the world is starting to take notice. Over a million people have signed the petition on his website to bring attention to the need for food education starting at an early age.
Child obesity numbers are soaring and on the rise. According to his website, there are over 42 million children under the age of 5 who are overweight or obese. Diet-related diseases are on the rise as well and contribute to a large percentage of deaths in the world each year. These numbers are staggering and only point to one thing.
Oliver’s goal with Food Revolution Day and his petition are to bring attention to the fact that food education should be a compulsory part of every child’s curriculum. If the numbers are true and this is the first generation predicted to live shorter lives than their parents, then obviously something needs to change.
